Jack Terrell-Wilkes

I am the seventh generation of my family to be ordained in the Methodist tradition. I entered Oklahoma City University as an Art major. Eventually, I changed to Philosophy \Religion and graduated in 1999. While attending OCU, I met Kristin Terrell, who I married in 2000, after dating for three years. Kristin and I both earned Master of Divinity Degrees at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia.

After completing our degrees in 2002, we moved back to Oklahoma City. I took a job at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church working with youth ages sixth grade through college. In 2003, I also assumed the position of Coordinator of Ministerial Recruitment and Nurture for the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. Since then I have served at Crown Heights UMC, Spencer UMC, Stratford UMC and Wynnewood UMC.

  • Following the way of Christ Jesus, by loving God, self, and others. Inviting others to join the Jesus movement to build the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
  • My passion is for social justice and multi-ethnic ministries. This is especially important to me as we are a multi-racial family.
  • My call is much like my favorite saint, Francis of Assisi, who is reported to have been told by God to “Rebuild my church”. I see my life’s work as helping communities of faith address what it means to be relevant in today’s world. We are called to be a present example of a future reality, the kingdom of God on earth as in heaven

After moving to Texas, he enrolled at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, where he studied piano, organ, and woodwinds, as well as Choral Conducting.  He studied organ as a student of Dr. Ronald Hough.  During that time he spent several years as the organist and choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls.

In June of 1992 he became the organist at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lawton, then in September of that year he became the organist at Grace United Methodist Church in Lawton.  After a year, the Choir Director quit and he became the only musician there for the next 16 years, organist, pianist and Choir Director.  After serving there for 17 years total, he moved on to Lawton Heights United Methodist Church where he remains today as a volunteer organist.

Bob works full time as a bookkeeper in a local accounting firm.  His hobbies are centered mostly around music and he enjoys practicing both piano and organ at home.
