Bob Hoppe

Bob has been a musician in and around churches since he began studying piano at the age of four.  Not too long after beginning on the piano, his interest turned to organ and began he began studying organ after becoming fascinated with the giant instrument that was available in the Lutheran Church he grew up in.  His first assignment as organist was at the age of thirteen when he played for his Church’s performance of “The Messiah.”  He became a substitute organist for many Lutheran and Methodist churches.  After that for many years until moving to Texas in the late 70’s.

After moving to Texas, he enrolled at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, where he studied piano, organ, and woodwinds, as well as Choral Conducting.  He studied organ as a student of Dr. Ronald Hough.  During that time he spent several years as the organist and choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls.

In June of 1992 he became the organist at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lawton, then in September of that year he became the organist at Grace United Methodist Church in Lawton.  After a year, the Choir Director quit and he became the only musician there for the next 16 years, organist, pianist and Choir Director.  After serving there for 17 years total, he moved on to Lawton Heights United Methodist Church where he remains today as a volunteer organist.

Bob works full time as a bookkeeper in a local accounting firm.  His hobbies are centered mostly around music and he enjoys practicing both piano and organ at home.
